Vietnam, Hanoi is probably heaven for addicts for special food. We like to try a lot of things too and because we had only little time we hired some experts to show us around! After a short search on the internet we came to only one who could assist us on short notice (one day before we booked): www.VietnamAwesomeTravel.com. They where just great, our guide Ms. Lily walked us around the old quarter to taste the various things Hanoi has to offer with great explanation what it is. Why do this one a (private) tour? It’s time efficient. Of course you can try it all yourselves but you probably end up spending to much time to check where to get it (you can see it below also) and you probably pay more anyway that with the tour. Book a private tour! It’s best way.

Dinner time in Hanoi! What’s better then a fresh and live cobra snake? Part of our customized food on foot tour in Hanoi as last taste.
When we arrived to Snake Village in Hanoi we needed a few minutes to find the restaurant which our guide arrange for us. Arrived there the owner went to the cages and took a nice cobra still alive. When we agreed that the one was OK to eat he would kill it on the spot and take the beating heart out. The beating heart is put into rise wine while still beating and drank as a shot. Also the blood and gall is put together with rise wine and drunken with a shot glass. Check out first the video of the preparing of the snake at the bottom of the post.
The snake was prepared in several dishes which are: Beating heart in rise wine, blood in rise wine, gallbladder in rise wine, fried snake meat, two kinds of spring rolls with snake meat, fried bones, fried skin, rise with snake oil, long cooked rise with snake fluids, snake soup, boiled remains, salad of intestines. A great dinner we had!
