From Hanoi to Sapa about 345km long, and at least takes us one day to be there or 1 night to Lao Cai city then take public bus or private car zigzag mountain trail up to Sapa, so firstly go to the station in Hanoi or Lao Cai and night train should be book in advance with local Hanoi tours and travel agency as Vietnam Best Adventure Tours and come there 1 hour earlier, day train can go there an buy ticket or night sleeping bus, should buy ticket in advance at the weekend or festival in Vietnam specially Tet festival and Unification and Labor day combination in Vietnam 30 April and 1 May.
The most convenient to Sapa from Hanoi, by train, during the day 9 hours or considered as the slowest train from Hanoi to Lao Cai LC3 start at 6:10 arriving 16:35 or more and back Hanoi LC4 from 9:15am to 20:15pm, stop all of local station, but can have view of mountain and rural life on the way. Fast train at night stop in main local station and take 8 hours, from Hanoi – Sapa as SP1, 3, 5,7 starting time in Hanoi 21:10, 21:50, 19:40,20:35 Arriving Lao Cai 05:25, 06:15, 04:20, 4:45.
Or can take bus at three places in Hanoi at 779 Giai Phong street in the south of Hanoi center, My Dinh bus station to the west, at 7 Pham Van Dong street starting from 6:am to 21:pm around 30 minute for next bus, from Sapa back Hanoi at 69 Xuan Vien street in Sapa town with two times at 7:am and 15:pm, from Lao Cai back Hanoi at two places 333 Pho Moi street and 708 Hoang Quoc Viet street - Cam Duong town – Lao Cai city.
Or with the most adventure way, tourist can take motorbike for rent, travel your own from Hanoi to Lao Cai and Sapa

2 Days 1 Night from Sapa and back, overnight in hotel or homestay: Cat Cat – Ham Rong (Jaw dragon mountain or botanical garden) – Lao Chai – Ta Van, Lao Chai – Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai – Su Pan, Giang Ta Chai – Su Pan – Ban Ho – Nam Toong… or also Fansipan peak.
3 Days 2 Nights from Sapa: combination overnight in hotel in Sapa and homestay, For longer time than 3 days also combination as 3 days.
So totally from Hanoi and Sapa trip can take you at least 2 nights 1 day – 2 nights on the train or bus, medium time could be 3 nights and 2 days – 2 nights on train and 1 night in Sapa that should be recommended by us.
