Hai Phong city has an area of 1,520.7 km ² with population 1,837,302 people (according to the statistics in 2009). The city has many districts as Hong Bang, Ngo Quyen, Le Chan, Kien An, Hai An, Duong Kinh and Do Son. There are some ethnic groups such as Kinh, Hoa, Tay, Nung, etc. The Kinh people are the most crowded ethnic.
Geography
Hai Phong, coastal city is one of major tourist centers of Vietnam, borders Quang Ninh province in the north, Hai Duong province in the east, Thai Binh province in the south.
The city is located in tropical monsoon region. The average temperature is from 23 º C to 24 ° C, the annual rainfall is 1,600 – 1,800mm.

Hai Phong is located in the tourist route Hanoi – Hai Phong – Ha Long Bay. The city has Do Son resort. From Do Son, tourists can go high speed train to visit Cat Ba National Park, Bai Tu Long and Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh).

Haiphong has a major seaport located on the International Maritime: East – West, North – South. It is an important transport hub for water, road, railway and airlines transportation system.
- Roads: It is102km far from Haiphong to Hanoi city. Hai Phong is located in the Highway 10: Thai Binh-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh. Therefore, it is very convenient for visiting the city.
- Train: Trains from Ha Noi to Hai Phong run daily.
- Waterways: There are ships: Hai Phong – Ha Long – Cat Ba – Mong Cai.
- Airlines: There are flights from Hai Phong to Ho Chi Minh City.
